4th grade Music

Hello and Happy New Year!

You probably all assumed that I had forgotten about doing a blog. And you would be pretty much correct in that assumption. It is rare for me to remember to get pictures during a class. The few times that I have remembered to get pictures, I have generally forgotten to write a post. Please forgive me!

Today was an exception and maybe a chance to start again. I saw a chance to capture the 4th graders working in small groups to learn to play, "Git on Board", on recorders.

Learning to play recorders is not fun for everyone but it is a good tool for learning to apply music reading skills which is easily accessible to all. we go over portions of each song as a class, so that each student has the opportunity to get direct instruction from the teacher. Student then have time to work in small groups where they can watch and listen to one another. This gives them a chance to see successes and errors on a smaller scale and work with their friends toward a common goal, which is to perform the song for me. It also give me a chance to walk around and engage with a handful of students at a time and to see who is doing well or needs a little more guidance.

Please encourage your students to practice at home! Yes, it can be a little hard on the ears and the nerves! But few skills develop without repetition and effort.

Settling into fun AND learning!

We are packing a lot into our 30 minute music classes these days!

This week the first and second graders got a chance to practice identifying high and low sounds with instruments, voices, and movement.

The fourth and fifth graders worked on reviewing note identification by playing a game and helping Mrs. DeBoer learn how to use the Smart-board.

Let's get it Started!

Concordia Academy is a great place for MUSIC!
We will get started this year by getting to know one another and getting to understand how God created us as Musical Beings. God Loves Music so much that he created us with music makers BUILT IN! We will explore how our minds and bodies can make music for our own enjoyment as well as for others.
